Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive alternative to surgery, steroidal injections and oral medication. Treat musculoskeletal pathologies quickly and effectively with the new operating concept for Radial Shockwave Therapy.
What are Shockwaves in medicine ?
Shock Waves are movements of extremely high pressure caused by, for example, an explosion, an earthquake or a plane breaking the sound barrier.
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is the application of Shockwaves in medicine.
It is clinically proven that pressure waves, when applied to injured tissues, stimulate metabolic reactions:
- Reduction of pain felt by nerve fibers
- Increase of blood circulation in surrounding soft tissues
- Beginning of healing process triggered by stem cells activation
CAN ANYONE RECEIVE THIS TREATMENT ?
With a few exceptions, most people with tendinopathy & Plantar Faciopathy would be able to have this treatment. We will carry out an assessment prior to treatment and be able to advise you on this.
DOES IT HURT ?
You may experience some pain/discomfort during the treatment, but we will adjust the treatment to your response that you can easily tolerate the procedure. Following the treatment, you may initially experience more pain, redness, bruising, swelling and numbness to the area, but this is the aim to switch your body from chronic to acute inflammatory phase.
WHAT CAN I DO AFTER TREATMENT ?
In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities, however we do not recommend to over exercise following the first 48 hours.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED ?
This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. In most cases, you may start with a course of 3 sessions ( a week apart) but your clinician will advise you about your specific treatment plan.
